Jesus’ intention was that we become one with God, just as He was. He once prayed, “that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us”. And as a result, we would have the same abilities as Jesus – in His own words: “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do”.
Originally, humanity was meant to keep adversarial things under control. That includes everything that tries to keep you sick, incapacitated, depressed, fearful, or in danger. Jesus restored people into this position by granting them authority and ability. He said: “Behold, I give you the authority (…) over all the power of the enemy (hostile things), and nothing shall by any means hurt you”.
An integral part of this received authority is that believers can heal the sick: “And these signs will accompany those who believe: they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” All of God’s promises are given to the believer – whoever believes – as Jesus put it. It is now up to people to decide to believe, so God can do His part in return and activate His given Word.
